Donna Holcomb

Pastor

Greetings in the name of our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ!  My name is Donna Holcomb, known to many as Pastor D., mom, sweetie (from my sweet husband) and Nana.  My husband Mike and I just celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary – we have been so blessed.  Although I was a major part of ministry at our home church for many years as a lay leader and lay speaker, God called me to the pulpit permanently in 2005.  For the first 8 years I was bi-vocational, sharing ministry with the business community as the Executive Director for the Steuben County Council on Aging.  I also have a certification as a social worker and spent about 30 years in the long-term care arena.  I have served 4 churches in the past 18 years – Alvarado, Helmer where I remain today. for two years served South Milford simultaneously, and now a supervising pastor to the Orland congregation for 2 ½ years ago.  I am in my 15th year serving Helmer.  All four of these churches have disaffiliated from the UMC and we are or will be sharing the common bond of being a part of the Global Methodist Church.  On October 28, 2023, I was ordained as an Elder in the Global Methodist Church.  Ministry has been and continues to be such a blessing in my life – serving God and His people in unique and wonderful ways.  In my personal life, my husband Mike and I live on a 21 acre farmette where he has restored it to wildlife habitat.  We have beautiful views from our home and I cannot imagine living anywhere else.  Mike is retired from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources where he served in several capacities over nearly 30 years, ending as Property Manager.  We are the proud parents of twin sons born in 1976 – Michael II who now lives in heaven since his 36th birthday due to losing his life in a hit and run accident; and Travis who, with his beautiful wife Jennie are parents to our three precious grandchildren – Reed who is 30, Rachel who is 23 and Luke who is 18.  Reed and his wife Kenzie live in Colorado Springs and will be presenting us with our first great grandchild (a baby girl) in February 2024.  Rachel is about to be married to Mason in September of 2024, and Luke will go off to college in the fall of 2024 on a baseball scholarship as a pitcher – the college yet to be determined.  We have been blessed with health and happiness throughout our lives, despite my two bouts fighting cancer and the loss of a son.  But God is faithful and we are so grateful!  In our spare time (what is that?) we enjoy traveling, bicycling, reading and working on the farm.  We invite you to join us in person or online for our services (Facebook:  Helmer Community Church) and receive the joy we have been given by our God.
